2013 began with the coldest spring in a decade but by late spring, the best summer in years arrived giving our vines perfect conditions for flowering and fruitset. The summer was less windy than usual giving us low vine stress and good ripening. In the weeks just before harvest, the weather turned very warm which led to a rapid accumulation of sugars. Stylistically the resulting wine was disappointing, so we decided to begin our Cognac project instead of declaring a vintage.
