Raymond Chan reviews our 2011. Here are his tasting notes. The fifth crop from the ‘Fancrest' vineyard fully destemmed, with 50% whole berries, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 13 months in a range of barrel sizes, 50% Dom. Laurent ‘Magic' casks and 15% new. Moderately dark ruby-red colour with some purple hues, lighter on edge. The bouquet is fine and firm with intense black cherry and dark plum aromas interwoven with herbs, spices and minerals. Medium-bodied, tightly bound and intense flavours of spicy black cherries, plums and liquorice are framed within very fine-grained tannins. The palate is near-velvety with a refined, textured mouthfeel, providing an elegant line. Soft acidity enhances the sweetness of the fruit, and a little spicy oak and violetty lift shows on a long, lingering and dry finish. This is an elegantly concentrated and finely textured Pinot Noir with spicy black fruit flavours. Serve with duck and pork over the next 5-6 years. Certified BioGro organic. 18.0/20 Oct 2012.
Rebecca Gibb MW describes it like this: "A pretty and perfumed Pinot Noir, suggestive of a cooler vintage. This is a light bodied wine with a delicate frame. Expect floral and violet notes, with a spicy note and fine chalky tannins. It is unfined and unfiltered so you're getting all the goodness of its pure fruit."
Blindtasted.com Andreas Larsen describes it like this:"Medium deep ruby red colour. Some evolution on the nose, sweet plum cherry and stewed berries, the palate, however has more freshness than the nose, juicy red fruit, mild spices, rather good volume and density of fruit, fine length and some spicy notes on the finish, still rather youthful, should develop well."
